Two half-day excursions will be organized on Wednesday, July 6,

Kindly check your wish to take part in any of the following trips in the respective box of your online Registration Form. The price for each trip is EUR 30 to be paid at the Registration Desk. TRIP A - Excursion to West Bohemian spasThis excursion will take you to famous and old West Bohemian spas. Marianske Lazne (Marienbad) is a jewel among the spas in the Czech Republic. It is an architectonic masterpiece - a city in a park, a park in a city. You will walk through the colonnades, possibly try some of the 70 mineral springs located in the urban area, and visit the Singing Fountain, a fantastic computerized water spectacle of hundreds of water jets accompanied by famous classical music compositions. The natural spa Lazne Kynzvart (Bad Königswart) dating back to the 13th century is dedicated to treatment of the respiratory tract in children. One of the most visited cultural sights here is the Metternich castle, sensitively set into a vast natural landscape park, that is a rare example of rural representative residence built in the style of Viennese classicism and French imperial architecture. Splendid interiors of the castle house vast collections of works of art and an extensive, very significant aristocratic library. The dinner will be served at a local restaurant in Lazne Kynzvart. TRIP B - Excursion to West Bohemian countrysideThis excursion will take you first to the castle Svihov, which is the only water-surrounded medieval castle in the Czech Republic. Svihov is a late-gothic castle built at the break of the 15th and 16th centuries on the site of a former stronghold. A guided tour will show you through the interiors of the castle illustrating the life in the 16th century. Then, the bus will take you to a village called Chudenice (first mentioned in 1291), from where - if the weather allows - you will walk to the outlook-tower Bolfanek (592 m), modified from a former Baroque church spire. From here, you will have a possibility to admire the beautiful view of the surrounding highlands. A couple of steps from Bolfanek will lead you to a two-hectare arboretum called American Garden, planted mainly with trees of 77 species and 204 genera and stains from North America, the local Douglas fir tree from 1843 being one of the oldest in continental Europe. The dinner will be served at Hotel Chudenice. | ||||||||||||||||||
